Fulshear Basketball-The Breakdown
With sports returning to Fulshear, I feel like it is a good time to talk about the Fulshear basketball team. I’ll be giving an overview of last year, expectations for the new year, and important dates to remember. Let’s go!
Last year did not go according to plan for the Chargers. They finished with a 12-19 record, and a 4-12 record in district play. Fulshear DID beat their rivals at Foster, but the rest of district play was lackluster, to say the least. The team started to play much better towards the later half of the year, winning 2 out of their last 3 games. Like any team, they would like to improve of course, but they must get better in divisional play in order to jump up the rankings.
The Chargers open play on the 11th of November, with a non-district game against Fort Bend Dulles. They then play on the 21st against Fort Bend Travis, which is also a non-district game. Finally, they have a stretch of district games against Terry, Lamar Consolidated, and Foster.
The Basketball team must improve their shooting from outside the arc. Their 3-point shooting, while efficient, was not getting the job done. Their passes towards the inside of the paint were solid, but the Chargers could benefit from making more passes, and shooting more 3-point shots.
Now I feel like this team is ready to improve, and I believe that their district play will follow that path. Now it’s just a matter of time to see how their plays fit into the system. Will they establish a solid defense, or do some pick-and-roll, or establish an offense that relies on screening? That is up to the coach and the players themselves. But I can confidently say that the Chargers will improve, and I would not rule out a postseason appearance. But of course, anything can happen, and we will just have to wait and see!
