As the different teams ran through the Charger Head, the crowd full of families, friends, and students cheered them on. As the first event of the season, Meet the Chargers allowed people to make memories that they will cherish forever. From the flying cheerleaders to the football team sprinting across the track, this day was clearly going to leave its mark on the students at Fulshear High School.
Colorguard, tennis, and cross country were just some of the groups presented at Meet the Chargers. But what really led up to the huge performance of an event?
“We practiced everyday,” sophomore Megan Cooper, a member of the Storm dance team, said. “It was really exciting, but tiring.”
This year is Megan’s first season on the Fulshear High School competitive dance team, Storm. She, along with 53 other Storm members, performed a dance to an AC/DC song,“ Shook Me All Night Long”.
“It felt really great, the adrenaline was rushing,” Megan said.
It was a feeling she never had, as it was her first time running out on that field and her first performance on Storm. For a rookie, it can be really overwhelming for the first big high school performance. It was an even better feeling when Megan knew she ended the routine and executed perfectly. She knew she did great and felt super good about herself. She can’t wait for all the games and contests she gets to perform in the future.
Training for one event can be stressful, but having to deal with the stress of handling two can be a lot more. Sophomore Ashlinh Davis has to handle band and cheer for the year. Ashlinh has been part of the band for two years, and just recently got in the junior varsity cheer team for this school year.
“The best part of (Meet the Chargers) was probably getting to perform with my best friends for the first time and that enjoyment at the end of knowing that we did so well together.” Ashlinh said,”The worst part was probably the weather because it was just so hot.”
Aside from the weather, the event was a huge success, with everything running through smoothly. Meet the Chargers was the introduction of all the teams, and allowed new Fulshear High School students to welcome themselves into the Charger life.
